From Laura Wheeler, RN BSN M.Ed NCSN CRCSD School Nurse:"Influenza is still widespread throughout Iowa, and some indicators have actually reported slight increases in activity. Hospitalizations and absence due to illness in schools remains high. Influenza vaccine is still available and I would check with your health care provider about this if you have not had one for this year. It does take about 2 weeks for the vaccine to be effective and will not prevent the influenza virus if you have already been exposed."
