March 28 - FINAL ANNOUNCEMENTS
Last Minute Information for All Hawaii Travelers
Aloha! We are a few short days/hours from leaving for Hawaii. Please read the following announcements carefully to ensure a smooth departure.
EVERYONE MUST BE ON TIME!
We will leave without you if you are late.
The plane will not wait for us!!
1. Eat a good breakfast and drink plenty of water before leaving home.
2. Everyone should wear their aloha shirt & badge. Wear comfortable pants/shorts (jeans ok).
3. All instruments (except flutes and clarinets) are at school and have been checked.
4. Everyone needs to know their flight group and Minneapolis bus number (Mango 1, Papaya 2, Guava 1, etc).
5. All suitcases must have their colored Hawaii State Tour tag. These tags must be filled out with name, phone, group name (Cedar Rapids Jefferson Band), and Minneapolis bus number. If your bag does not have this tag your suitcase may not be delivered to your hotel!
6. Students should bring their suitcase and carry-on with a luggage tag and the colored Hawaii State Tours tag securely attached and completely filled out.
7. Flutes and clarinets are carry-ons. If possible, these instruments should be inside your carry-on bag. If it won’t fit, it is ok to have a smallish carry-on bag (backpack) and your clarinet. Be sure all bags have tags.
8. Student suitcases go to the band room – Girls on Mr. Driskell’s side of the room/Boy’s on Mr. Houk’s side
9. Student suitcases should be organized by Minneapolis bus rows (look for signs).
10. Student’s carry-ons/purses/coats in choir room organized by Minneapolis bus.
11. Once suitcases and carry-ons are in bandroom/choir room, then all students need to go to the auditorium. Please do not wander around the bandroom area. Use the bathrooms by the auditorium.
12. ALL ADULTS (Followers/Chaperones/Staff) suitcases and carry-ons go in the orchestra room.
13. We need lots of adult help checking luggage!
14. After student’s suitcases and carry-ons have been checked, there will be an announcement made in the auditorium to depart.
15. Staff/Chaperones/Followers on bus first, followed by students.
16. When it is time to go, an announcement will be made for students to pick up their carry-ons/suitcase/instrument then load on their correct Minneapolis bus.
17. Everyone is responsible to load their own stuff! If you don’t load it, it won’t make it to Hawaii.
18. We’ll have water/snacks for bus ride. Grab 2 bottles of water and 2 snacks for the bus ride. Please keep the bus clean. Adults – please help us manage trash on the bus.
19. We will NOT stop until we arrive in Minneapolis. Everyone must use the bathroom at Jefferson before departure! Use the bathrooms on the bus. The only reason we would stop enroute is if the drive needs to use the restroom. No one should get off the bus if that happens!
20. Assume that there will not be free food on the airplane. Bring at least $10 cash for food on the plane.
See everyone bright and early Sunday morning!!Mahalo,
Mr. Houk
March 17 - Band Tour Shirts
Aloha shirts will be passed out at tonight’s Hawaii practice (6:00 – 7:30 pm in the auditorium)! Students will receive a BLUE shirt. Chaperones, Followers and Staff will receive a RED shirt.
Everyone who returned a HAWAII SHIRT FORM will receive the shirt size they requested.
Those who did NOT turn in the form will get what is left. Every attempt was made to estimate the correct size for those individuals who did not return their form.
We do NOT have extra shirts.
If your shirt does not fit, I suggest that you find someone to swap shirts with.
STUDENTS: PLEASE – Do NOT wear this shirt until the tour. I suggest that you wash your shirt in cold water before departure. I also suggest that you bring a small container of woolite on the trip so you can wash out your shirt in Hawaii.
Mahalo!Mr. Houk
